Keeping winter from ruining your floors

winter tipsWinter has finally reared its ugly head here in the Long Beach Island region where we are located. It is our experience that once the coldest season strikes, your carpets and floors seemingly appear dirty and dingy all of the time.

The challenges of your families and your pets spending more time indoors – coupled with the tracking in of any ice-melt products when the snow finally does arrive can leave your floors wanting for seasons of old.

Therefore, we put together some quick tips to help ease the winter flooring doldrums from your home:

  • First of all, invest in sturdy entry mats for your home. This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised to learn that not all homes have them. A good mat will catch a majority of the soil that would otherwise come straight into the home.

  • Removing your shoes before entering the home. This will significantly cut down on what gets tracked inside. But even if you only walk on hard floors while wearing shoes, tracked-in soil will spread throughout the home.

  • If possible, vacuum weekly. This will serve to keep salt and loose soil out of the carpet will prolong the life of the floor, helping to prevent fiber damage, and as well as prevent dust mites and other microscopic pests from penetrating deep into carpets.

  • Finally, hire us here at Bayside Carpet Cleaning for a professional and thorough cleaning of your carpets and floors that should last well into the spring if you also follow our aforementioned tips.

We hope you will utilize our service to help you and your family survive the winter doldrums!

Don’t leave your mattress with a dirt complex!

Hey there all of you Bayside Carpet fans – did you know we can clean and take care of your mattresses, too? In fact, of all of the things that need to be taken of and cleaned around the house, the mattresses are often the ones that get left behind and need the most love.

Because they are more often than not dressed with sheets and covers, most homeowners will overlook a mattress – even if there are stains – because they take an “out of sight, out of mind’ attitude. However, with sweat and other human dirt seeping through onto the mattress each night, it could provide the perfect place for additional bacteria and dust mites to breed.

We certainly encourage you to avoid that!

Did you know that many respiratory illnesses, headaches and allergies can be traced back to a soiled bed? Dust mites are common allergen producers. And, it’s not uncommon for a dirty mattress to harbor millions of dust mites.

Disgusting.

Therefore, we recommend a deep mattress cleaning to avoid these pests and the issues they can cause. Due to increased cleaning technology developed over recent years, we can eliminate 95 percent of dust mites in just one treatment. This comes in especially handy during the holidays when family members of all sensitivities and ages may be visiting. Children and more elderly family members especially.

So, we encourage you to have your mattresses treated by us in order to lessen the chance of compromising yours and your family’s health.

Happy holidays!

Stay ahead of holiday carpet stress

holiday gatheringThe holiday season can be a stressful one when it comes to keeping your home, as well as your carpets and floors, clean.

Therefore, we wanted to share some common mistakes to avoid when you’re self-treating those holiday spills and mishaps.

Here’s hoping both you AND your carpets survive this holiday season.

  • Never over-saturate your carpets with cleaning products. This could cause your stain to become even larger and potentially soak through to the carpet pad as well.
  • Do not rub your carpets. You can fray and potentially cause permanent damage to the fibers.
  • Vacuum. Be sure to vacuum up any dry pieces that may have fallen as well before applying any cleaning solutions.

For more detailed and difficult carpet-care needs, call us here at Bayside Carpet Cleaning for a full-service visit before your holiday company arrives.

Cheers!

Tips for a Stain-Free Thanksgiving

thanksgiving-disaster-dropped-turkeyThanksgiving is quite literally just over a week away. As many of you will host dinners this year, there is always the chance for spills, drops and stains of all types – food,  wine, grease, perhaps even wax from candles that had been burning to prevent the smell of turkey from permeating throughout your home for days following your holiday gathering.

Therefore, our Bayside Carpet experts wanted to provide you with some tips that will help you keep permanent stains at bay this Thanksgiving:

1. Remove it now. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to remove. If you cannot remove the stain, call Bayside right away.
2. Do not use Resolve or other high residue products on your area rugs. Use a neutral ph spotting agent that is made for wool. Call us for purchase information.
3. Use as little moisture as possible with silk, sisal, cotton, and grass rugs. For these, apply a spotter to a cloth and gently dab the stain.

Caution as some area rugs have a very unstable dye and can be easily ruined. Always pre-test any solution on the rug before attempting spot removal.

Below are some additional tips that will help:

  • Make sure you never apply any solvent (nail polish or rubbing alcohol) directly to the carpet. This could cause weakening of the fiber backing.
  • Use a spot machine (by Bissel, little green machine, etc) or a wet vacuum to extract any liquid spot before you treat it with any spot removing solution.
  • Don’t use too much solution. An entire bottle of spotter should NEVER be used on one spot.
  • Rinse, rinse, rinse. This is one of the biggest things homeowners overlook. Remember, the rinse water can be extracted with your spot machine or wet vacuum.

Most spots: Use our SpotOut Cleaner or mix 1/4 teaspoon clear hand dishwashing soap with 1 cup water and follow the directions above. Avoid high residue spotters such as Resolve.

Grease or Oils: For greasy spots, apply rubbing alcohol to a cloth and gently dab the spot. Never pour a solvent directly on your carpet.

For wax: Melt the wax unto a paper bag with a steam iron at a low temperature. Place the paper bag over the wax. Do not allow the iron to directly touch the carpet.

We hope these tips will help you and your family enjoy a less stressful Thanksgiving!

The Smelly Truth: Getting Rid of Pet Odor – from Bayside Carpet Cleaning

pug

No one wants to enter your own or someone else’s home and the first thing that greets you is that stale smell of lingering pet odor.

Yuck.

We know and understand that pet odor is a very common problem. At Bayside Carpet Cleaning we can help you better deal with your pet challenges. We will work with you to develop the best solution for your pets and your household.

The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered.

Pet urine also opens the door for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber.

In order eliminate this problem the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers effected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer may be applied.

Left untreated over a period of time, pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. Draperies, sheet rock, upholstered furniture, base-boards, even the concrete foundation are just a few of the materials that can absorb these odors.

We offer a range of solutions to help you with your pet odor problems. In the long run, however, it may be more a matter of proper maintenance instead of total elimination. After all, we love our pets and want to keep them a part of our family. Pet ownership adds to the challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy home. However, at Bayside Carpet Cleaning we can help you meet those challenges.

Less stench equals happy humans and therefore, happy pets!

Have pets? The Secrets to Removing their Stains – from Bayside Carpet Cleaning

remove-pet-stainPuppies – we have them (or, had them), they’re cute and cuddly and often become wonderful members of our families. However, we sometimes forget the hard work and time spent that goes into training and housebreaking them.

No matter how steadfast we remain in the training routine, accidents are bound to happen and we realize this here at Bayside Carpet Cleaning.

Because we understand if you currently have, or are considering bringing a dog into your home, it’s probably a good idea to known how to remove a good urine stain from your carpet.

Here are our tips on how to remove urine from your carpet:

Although old urine stains cannot be removed from the carpet unless they are cut out, stains that have appeared within a couple of hours can often be cleaned with good success. This can be accomplished by using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, followed by blotting with water only. After this, absorb the spot with clean colorfast towels until it is as dry as possible. Next, place a one-half inch thick weighted layer of colorfast towel over the spot and let it sit overnight. This final procedure must not be overlooked since crystallized urine residues left in the carpet are capable of reproducing odors during the warmer more humid months. Older urine stains often require replacement of the part and pad in the affected areas and can also necessitate cleaning the sub-floor with a disinfectant.

Having pets is a true labor of love, but we hope we were able to help you in keeping your home more stain free.

In the event you were able to remove the stain yourself, please reach out to us and we’ll be out with a solution for you!

  4. If the stains are thick, allow the vinegar to set on the stain for a minute.
  5. Wipe away.

  9. Once the salt is removed, rinse the floor with clean water.
  10. Remove any excess water with a dry cloth. This is an especially important step for wood floors to keep them from warping.
  11. Allow the floors to dry completely.
  12. Spot treat any remaining areas as needed.

Additional Tips and Advice

  • Do not apply any floor waxes or sealants until the salt is removed. Otherwise, it will seal the salt in.
  • The cleaning methods above are safe to use on all sealed flooring types. If you are unsure how the flooring will react with the cleaning product, test a small area first. Apply the cleaning product and allow it to set for an hour. Remove and allow the area to dry completely. If there are no adverse effects, it is safe to proceed with the rest of the floor.
  • If unsure at all, please feel free to call 609-290-2691 or email info@baysidecarpetcleaning.org for FREE Advice.

If an excess amount of de icer is present, please call Bayside Carpet Cleaning for proper extraction.

Tile and grout cleaning by the Pro’s in Manahawkin, Long Beach Island , NJ http://www.baysidecarpetcleaning.org/OurServices/TileandGroutCleaning.aspx

Ceramic tile can be a fantastic choice for your flooring. But keeping the grout clean can be back breaking task.  Porous grout can soak up grease, food and other unwanted products that are difficult to remove.

Bayside Carpet Cleaning employs a truck-mounted cleaning system that heats up water to 240 degrees and sprays it out at 1000 lbs of pressure. But before that, Bayside utilizes the best and safest cleaning agents on your tile and grout that breaks down the foreign substances before it is cleaned and extracted with the truck-mounted system. All of the water and cleaning agents used are recovered by a spinner tool that scrubs the tile and grout while sucking up the water into a waste tank in the van. Giving your home a beautiful, like new tile and grout flooring.
